Top 3 Hiking Trails in the Northwest Valley

West Wing Loop

This is one of my favorite hikes to do. It is a 4-mile loop that offers lots of scenic views. The trail itself is rated moderate but there are additional routes you can take that are marked as difficult. I recommend going on them because the views are spectacular. If you don’t have time to do the full loop, you can run up and down the steep incline within 25 minutes. It is a great workout!

MODERATE

Length: 4.0 miles

Elevation Gain: 872 ft

Route Type: Loop

Parking: Most people park at the Westwing Park.

Thunderbird Mountain

Thunderbird Mountain has several moderate trails. What I love about this area is that it is runner friendly. I typically like to hike this mountain when I need a good workout but do not have a lot of time to spare.

Some of the trails include: Coach Whip (Moderate), Flatlander (Easy), Arrowhead Point (Moderate), Cholla Loop (Moderate to Difficult), Chuckwalla (Moderate).

Parking: Pinnacle and 55th.

Deem Hill Ridgeline Trail

This trail is an easy to moderate hike that’s dog friendly and less traveled during the week. Just remember to look for the R marker otherwise you will miss the trail that takes you to the top.
